Fergus

Fergus sheets are up.  I have a lot of pics to sort through...  Stay tuned for great photos of the weekend.

Maxville, Fergus, and the end of the season...
Posted August 5, 2014

Maxville was a success!   Well done to everyone!  Awesome competition.  Moving on to Fergus: parade is on Thursday.  Assembly time is 6:30 at the latest, up by Victoria Park.  That's on the south side of river, one block east of HWY 6.  If you drove down the street where the Tourist Info booth is on 6 there, you'd be in the right spot.  I plan on parking at the Goofie Newfie and walking up, since the parade ends at the legion...  Then we compete on Saturday (Grade IV) and Sunday (Grade V).  Note that Grade V is duty band on Sunday.  This is a long weekend for us.  So, get some rest and get ready.

Pat:  Sheets are up for Maxville.

Cambridge
Posted July 21, 2014

Cambridge sheets are up.  New pics on the way.  Stay tuned for when and where practice will be next Sunday - we are not at the Research Station.

Post-Kincardine Stuff
Posted July 7, 2014

Hopefully everyone has recovered from the Kincardine games - that was a long week of competing.  Never seemed to stop.  So, the sheets are up from those games, and the Grade IV Embro sheets were edited for judges' indecipherability and re-posted.  There is video of both bands at Kincardine.  The Grade V has proven relatively easy to load, the Grade IV not so much.  We're working on it.  The Grade V video is right here.  Grade V Pipers: Note the blowing issues on the top hand, especially the As (the first high A is awful).  Note how the tone settles as soon as we stop moving our feet.  Also, note the clarity of the grips in the 2nd part of the second tune!  But the high As make it hard to listen to.  And the unison in the third tune - WOW! - compare that unison to the fourth tune.  Doesn't hold.  What we have to learn to do is control the instrument.

Embro & Kincardine
Posted July 4, 2014

Embro sheets are up, for those that want to peruse...  As for Kincardine, that's July 5, or tomorrow.  Grade V competes @ 1:00, so we get to miss the parade up the street.  Grade IV does the parade, as they compete around 2:00.  Show up is 9:30 - 10:00 (PPBSO band meeting is at 10:00).  Meeting space is the same as always - the house at the corner of Durham Market Street South and Princess Street.  Yes, that is a link that will take you to a map showing you downtown Kincardine.  I have Grade V video from Embro, just haven't loaded it, as I am at work, and although I normally don't give a rat's ass about wifi and data loads at work, Portage is a bit different, and I feel a wee bit of guilt using their bandwidth for my personal data.

Embro - Grade IV video

Here's a the Grade IV band at Embro.  I have Grade V as well, but need to edit it.

Coburg Sheets

Coburg sheets are up.

Coburg H.G.s
Posted June 18, 2014

Hey folks - looks like Coburg is on us. According to the Coburg Highland Games website, Massed Bands is at 12:30, so I'm thinking a turn-up time of 10:30ish is fine.  The Coburg website is actually very good, so I'm not going to bother posting up lots of links, etc.here as you can just go there.

I have never been to this games, so I have no idea where the band meets.  You'll have to walk around and find the lads and lassies.  If you are car-pooling, be sure to contact your fellow car-poolies so everyone knows what's going on.  Do not presume everyone knows what is up and what is not.  This goes for the return ride.  Be sure that the vehicle you intend to travel to Coburg in is returning with you.  Seem retarded saying this?  Believe you me, it has happened before...

Georgetown H.G.s
Posted June 11, 2014

A reminder for the veterans, and a memo for the Newbs:we will meet at about 10:00am or so up by Park Public School in the same old parking lot area for warm-up.  Massed bands is at 1:00 - Opening ceremonies start at 12:30.  The games' homepage is useless for any information  of measurable merit, so don't even bother looking there for help.  BUT - the photo page is intriguing, with, among other particularly juicy pics, a great pic of three serious lads - arms crossed - just outside the beer tent listening to a band competition...

For the Newbs: The games are held at the Georgetown Fairground.  The school is on Hyde Park Drive.  Parking can be tricky, but there's oodles of parking on the side streets all around the games' site.  If you park on site, it's $5-.  We meet at 10:00 or so (even though the games don't start until 1:00 because we want people relaxed and at ease.  Grade V competition starts at 1:15, Grade IV at 1:30 - looks like Grade IV gets a Massed Bands bye. You can view the band play list (as well as solo play times) at the PPBSO.   If you play solos, you are responsible for setting that up, and being on time, etc.  Maintain your instruments, don't show up hung-over, and remember to have fun. Weather for the day looks awesome.

As always when we compete, we wear our blue shirts, our blue socks, etc.  Don't forget your glen.  And your pass will get you into the games for free.

Website Update
Posted June 11, 2014

I updated a lot of the info on the website - some of the stuff was a little old and dates had gotten out of whack. I also redesigned the look and feel of the site - I thought the dark colours were a wee bit tough to read, so I opted for this cheery white with light blue highlights.  Hope you like!

Sheets from Toronto Up
Posted May 23, 2014

As the title suggests, the sheets are up - go to member's tab, scroll down to competition sheets, and click on the link.  Next three practices are at the high school, and then we play Georgetown, on June 14.  Woohoo.

Toronto Indoor Competition
Posted April 17, 2014

Alrighty;

The Toronto Indoor is this Saturday.  WEAR BLUES!  Note that entry into the armoury, regardless of whether you are playing or not, is $5-.  Complain if you want, but don't expect anyone to be sympathetic - these events cost money to run, and someone has to help out.  For band members, please follow Calum's advice from his email: be there by no later than 10:00am.  The bands are on at 14:00 (Grade V) and 14:24 hrs (Grade IV).

Moss Park Armoury is located at 130 Queen St. East, near the corner of Jarvis and Queen.  Best drive: 401 to 427 south.  At the bottom of the 427, merge onto the QEW Eastbound to Toronto.  Follow QEW, it then becomes the Gardiner Expressway.  Exit the Gardiner at Yonge and follow the lakeshore east to Jarvis, turning north to Queen.
Drive north on Jarvis to Queen. I'm not sure about the condition of the Jarvis street exit from the Gardiner, but right now Google is telling me its off-line.  Your call.   There is some parking at the armoury, but not much.  So be prepared to drive around a bit.  See you there!

Here's a link to Google maps that shows where the armoury is.

New Tunes Loaded to Pipe Music Page
Posted October 23, 2013

All the sets are loaded for the pipers on the music page (use the tabs on the top of this page, select Members Only, then click on Pipe Music).  They are the first selection of stuff you can opt to download.  All in PDFs.  As I get time, the site will get clean again.  A lot of stuff will be dumped.  So if there is anything you are really fond of and want to keep, figure out a way to get it on your machine for archiving.  We have an archive, and it has zero hits over the past two years, so I'm not going to bother anymore....

I also gave the site a face-lift.  Not sure I want it like this forever.  But I got tired of it, and wanted an update....

Cheers - your loyal and always happy web-guy.

Free MP3 Recording software.
Posted January 9, 2012

One of the guys in the band mentioned that he had some trouble using the free MP3 Recorder.  I just tried the link, and the software all seemed cool.  But, this is just one 'puter.  Anyone else having an issue?  If so, let me know.  I know it's a PITA to run this little program, but it is free, so what can you do?  In the meantime, I include a copy over on the right there (I tried it and the download works....)
